Sterling, VA – December 7, 2016: The ĢƵ (ĢƵ) recently released the 2016 ĢƵ Scorecard which provided an at-a-glance dashboard of institutional conflict of interest policies at medical schools. The results demonstrated continued improvement in medical school policies throughout the country – confirming the value in disclosing this important information on a regular cadence.
ĢƵ recognizes that creating effective policies requires the cooperation and commitment of numerous departments throughout institutions. In an effort to ensure every institution has sufficient time to reflect upon their scores and mobilize a team to strengthen and improve policies, ĢƵ will release the Scorecard on a biennial cycle. The next release is scheduled for Spring 2018.
“We will continue to look at the 14 domains, including industry funding of meals, gifts, scholarships, and faculty speaking engagements,” explained ĢƵ National President, Dr. Kelly Thibert.“Our most recent release showed great improvement from 2014, and we hope to see the same kind of progress in 2018.”
To request an executive summary of this year’s ĢƵ Scorecard, learn more about its methodology or hear from a trainee about the risks of conflict of interest in medical education, contact Pete Thomson at pr@amsa.org or (703) 665-4786. The scorecard itself can be found at.
