Fellowship Opportunities


Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ fellowship positions give students and emerging leaders the opportunity to build professional experience while contributing to meaningful work that supports the future of medicine and healthcare. Fellows collaborate with Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ staff and national leaders on projects related to advocacy, education, member engagement, and organizational initiatives, while strengthening leadership, communication, and project-based skills. These roles are ideal for students who are passionate about making an impact, growing as leaders, and gaining hands-on experience within a national medical student association.

 

 

 

 

The Director of Legislative Affairs serves as a central leader in advancing Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s advocacy agenda, policy priorities, and external relations efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role helps guide and strengthen the Association’s work across national, state, and local advocacy initiatives that affect medical students, healthcare, and the broader medical profession. The position is responsible for helping ensure Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s advocacy efforts are strategic, organized, mission-aligned, and responsive to a changing sociopolitical environment.

In addition to leading advocacy strategy, this role works closely with student leaders, chapters, staff, and external partners to build engagement, support grassroots action, and expand Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s influence. The Director of Legislative Affairs provides mentorship, develops advocacy campaigns, supports policy-related programming and events, and represents Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ in coalitions and with policymakers. This position is ideal for someone who can combine strategic leadership, relationship building, and member-centered advocacy to advance Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s mission and values.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Lead and support Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s advocacy and policy strategy.
  • Coordinate policy initiatives and campaigns that engage members and chapters
  • Provide training, mentorship, and resources to strengthen grassroots advocacy efforts
  • Represent Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ with policymakers, coalitions, allied organizations, and other external stakeholders
  • Track emerging legislative and policy issues impacting medical students and healthcare
  • Support events, programming, and leadership development initiatives
  • Help strengthen relationships that expand Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s voice, reach, and policy impact
